Maddie and Nancy

Sporthorse Saddlery is the result of owner Nancy Bredeson’s desire to combine her business management and marketing skills with the sport that is her lifelong passion.  Starting with riding lessons at the Battle Creek Hunt Club at age 9, she enjoyed a successful junior “career” in local and 4-H hunter/jumper competition with half-Arabian mare, Sundial.  Following a 10 year hiatus from riding after college (“Someday I’ll have enough time and money…yeah, right—when I’m 90!”), Nancy started learning dressage, and quickly acquired an off-the-track Thoroughbred, The Tin Woodsman, with whom she achieved the USDF Qualified Rider Award, and competed successfully through second level dressage.  Nancy’s current dressage partner is Maddie, an opinionated Percheron-cross mare, and the store’s official spokes model for extra-large sized products.  Work and family obligations have limited their opportunities for showing thus far, but they continue training toward that goal and enjoying the journey.
